Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church was built in 1951 by Mr. John Edgar Walsh and dedicated on October 7, 1951. At that time, the church belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe and belonged to the Diocese of Corpus Christi where the Most Rev. M. S. Garriga D.D., LL. D. was the bishop and Fr. Yves Tymen, O.M.I. was the pastor.
On September 22, 1968, Bishop Humberto S. Medeiros, of the new Diocese of Brownsville, which included the whole Rio Grande Valley, established the church as a parish district of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Until then the church had been taken care of by the Oblate Fathers, its founders, but the care of the new parish was taken over by the Salesian Fathers: Fr. Enrique Mendez, Pastor and Fr. Francisco Castillo, Assistant. Later Fr. Juan Santini became Pastor.
Eventually, Bishop John J. Fitzpatrick of the Diocese of Brownsville assigned diocesan priests to the parish: Fr. Tomas Mateos, Pastor, and Fr. Thomas Kulleck, Assistant.
The Parish Hall and Church Offices were built in 1973 under the direction of Mr. Warren C. Suter, Architect.
We continue to grow as a community of faith and look forward to continue to spread the Good News of the Gospel: LOVE, JUSTICE, and PEACE.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Genaro Henríquez
Pastor
